Billy

I have spent a decade in the trucking industry, and during that time I have made it a point to learn as much as possible about every side of the business. I started as a company driver, learning not only how to operate a truck safely, but also how logistics, freight, regulations, pricing, and the transportation industry work behind the scenes. That eventually led me to buy my first truck and become an owner-operator.

Years later, after starting a family, I chose to move into the construction side of trucking so I could be home more often. I went on to operate front-discharge concrete mixers and Michigan gravel trains, gaining another completely different perspective on the industry.

Those experiences are a big part of how I teach today. I do not believe CDL training should be about memorizing enough information to pass a test. I want my students to understand what they are doing, why they are doing it, and how to become safe, confident, professional drivers. My goal is to help build the next generation of truckers and give them the foundation to succeed long after they leave Billy’s CDL School.

Instructor

Karl

With nearly 40 years of professional driving experience, Karl brings decades of real-world trucking knowledge to Billy’s CDL School. His career has included Michigan gravel trains, doubles, 2 years of cross-country driving, and years of experience training and mentoring professional drivers.

In addition to his time behind the wheel, he has served as a driver trainer, company safety representative, and safety manager for a gravel train operation. Those roles gave him extensive experience helping drivers develop safe habits, understand company and industry expectations, and become dependable professional operators.

For approximately eight years, he has worked as a CDL instructor, using his experience behind the wheel and in safety management to prepare new drivers for the realities of the trucking industry. He became an instructor as a way to give back to an industry that has been a major part of his life and to help put knowledgeable, safe, quality drivers on the road.

His goal is not simply to help students obtain a CDL, but to help them become professional drivers who are prepared to be quality candidates for employers and build successful careers in trucking. This is what makes him a great addition to Billy's!
